About Class Parents

Class Parents are important volunteers who enrich the experience of ACS students, teachers, and families. As an extension of the HSA, Class Parents serve as liaisons between the teachers and families of a particular class. We aim to have 2 Class Parents per classroom, who can share responsibilities and partner together throughout the year.

Why be a Class Parent?

Being a Class Parent is a great way to get involved in the school. You will have the opportunity to get to know the school, your child’s teacher, other families, and become a part of your child’s classroom community.

Students recognize Class Parents as the friendly faces who expand the network of adults working to help and support them. Your own child will likely beam with surprise and excitement when you arrive for an event in their classroom or when their classmates run up to say 'hi' simply because they recognize you :)

What do Class Parents do exactly?

Class Parents...

  • Serve as a general resource and liaison between teachers and families.

  • Communicate and coordinate directly with families. They collect parent emails to do so and occasionally send announcements on behalf of the HSA and teachers.

  • Collect and manage class funds. Special activities, celebrations/parties, and gifts of appreciation for teachers are funded directly by students' families for each class. Class Parents request and manage those donations.
We recommend a suggested donation amount of $40 at the start of the school year and any amount given is appreciated. We encourage families to participate at whatever level they are most comfortable. In the case that the class does not have enough funds for remaining activities/gifts, a signup genius for class party item donations can be sent out or a second donation request can be made. Please be realistic and mindful when budgeting for the year.
Here's a helpful template for class parents to use (note there are 2 tabs for your reference).

  • Help teachers plan, set up, and run class parties by suggesting potential games, decorations, and healthy, allergy-free snacks* (note: all ideas are subject to approval by the teachers and/or school administrators). Class Parents often help purchase materials and food; they assist on the day of the party and help the students celebrate holidays and other special times of the year. The list of parties may vary based on grade, classroom, budget, or other factors; and may include, for instance, Halloween, Winter/Year-End Festivities, Valentine's Day, and the end of the school year.

  • Purchase and present gifts of appreciation for the teachers on behalf of the entire class. Typically this is done during the winter holidays, Teacher Appreciation week, and at the end of the school year.

  • Participate in Field Day as a chaperone. Field Day is arguably THE most anticipated day of the year for many students. We understand why -- because it's a lot of fun! Class Parents have the unique opportunity to be involved as chaperones that day, to help set up activities, take pictures, and/or escort students to and from activity stations.
