About Class Parents
Class Parents are important volunteers who enrich the experience of ACS students, teachers, and families. As an extension of the HSA, Class Parents serve as liaisons between the teachers and families of a particular class. We aim to have 2 Class Parents per classroom, who can share responsibilities and partner together throughout the year.
Why be a Class Parent?
Being a Class Parent is a great way to get involved in the school. You will have the opportunity to get to know the school, your child’s teacher, other families, and become a part of your child’s classroom community.
Students recognize Class Parents as the friendly faces who expand the network of adults working to help and support them. Your own child will likely beam with surprise and excitement when you arrive for an event in their classroom or when their classmates run up to say 'hi' simply because they recognize you :)
What do Class Parents do exactly?
Class Parents serve as a general resource and liaison between teachers and families.
-
They help communicate important updates to families, coordinate classroom events and activities (where applicable) on behalf of teachers and the HSA.
-
Class Parents manage class fund collections to be used for class celebrations/parties/activities and teacher gifts.
-
We recommend a suggested donation amount of $40 at the start of the school year and any amount given is appreciated. We encourage families to participate at whatever level they are most comfortable. In the case that the class does not have enough funds for remaining activities/gifts, a Signup Genius for class party item donations can be sent out or a second donation request can be made. Please be realistic and mindful when budgeting for the year.

Class Parties
-
Class Parents help teachers plan, set up, and run class parties by suggesting potential games, decorations, and healthy, allergy-free snacks* (note: all ideas are subject to approval by the teachers and/or school administrators). They purchase party supplies and assist on the day of the party. The list of parties may vary based on grade, classroom, budget, or other factors; class parties typically include these four events:
-
Halloween,
-
Winter Festivities,
-
Valentine's Day,
-
and the end of the school year.
-
-
Class Parents should communicate with their teacher before sending out any information on class parties. Individual teachers may have different party policies and different grades may have different policies as well.
-
Certain parties this year will be coordinated on a grade-wide basis. Information on this approach will be communicated in advance; or check with your teacher in advance.
Teacher Gifts
-
Class Parents purchase and present teacher gifts on behalf of the entire class. Typically this is done during the winter holidays and at the end of the school year.
-
Teacher Appreciation Week monetary gifts are at your discretion and dependent on your class budget. The HSA recommends a heartfelt craft/gift created by the class for Teacher Appreciation Week.
Field Day
-
Field Day is arguably THE most anticipated day of the year for many students. We understand why -- because it's a lot of fun! Some teachers will request Class Parents to be involved as chaperones that day, to help set up activities, take pictures, and/or escort students to and from activity stations. Others will open up this opportunity to other parents; please check with your teacher.
Lastly, Class Parents are a integral part of the HSA and will encourage families to participate in HSA/school events.
